The Beginning
Wil and I on my 24th Birthday
Wil and I first met through a mutual friend in August of 2000. I was fresh out of high school and about to start my College career. I was hanging out with an ex boyfriend who was home on leave from the navy, and he invited his friend Wil along. We hit it off that first day. Something inside me sort of clicked when he was singing a song by the band Cake.
That night I told my ex that I didn't think things were going to work out. He said he understood but if I could do him a  favor and hang out with his friend Wil, since he was going back to Virginia. I said sure. He gave me his number.
I called Wil and we made plans to see a play the next day. He drove me home after the play and we sat in his car in my backyard listening to Phantom of the Opera.
We dated for about three weeks and during that time I moved onto campus. I now felt torn because I was spending a lot of time with new friends and doing new things and always just missing his phone calls. I broke it off with him, but we still hung out from time to time.
Fast forward six years later. I had just gotten out of a 4 year relationship. I had tried calling Wil, but when I had gotten a new cell phone I didn't transfer his number correctly.  Then one fateful night another friend of ours stopped into my job. I was tempted to ask for Wil's number and even told our friend, but then for some stupid reason I decided not to. Well our friend came back in a little while later I "broke down" and ask for the number.
After work I was heading home, and I gave Wil a call just to let him know my new number. He invited me over. I took him up on the offer. I did a U turn in the middle of the the road and headed over. We stayed up till three in the morning just talking. The next day I went back over for a movie. We ended up watching Phantom of the Opera and the rest is history!

The Proposal
Every since we talked about getting married I would have my days of disappointment. There was, first, our lovely Valentines day dinner, no ring! Then there was my birthday, no ring!

So Wil calls me one day and says he made a purchase and don't get mad. He had bought two tickets to see Les Miserables at Walnut Street Theatre in Philly. I was so excited to see the show.

Well he starts saying how we should invite all our friends to go, and this caught my interest. My friends weren't really into seeing Les Mis and we had already bought our tickets. Well we settle on everyone meeting for dinner. It would be my bestfriend, Jessie, and his good friend, Matt, and wife, Colleen, joining us for dinner after the show. I thought for sure that this would be the night I would get engaged.

So we are getting ready and Wil is acting as normal as can be. He isn't trying to hide anything from me, no bulges in his pockets, nothing.

We get through the show and no ring. I guess I was wrong yet again. To seal this thought my best friend forgets about dinner. Surely if she had known I was getting engaged she would have remembered. So we meet up with Matt and Colleen and start our dinner.

The conversation is going is going from topic to topic and they wind up on the show Smallville. Well the season ended with one character proposing to another with a ring from a bubble gum machine. Matt starts saying, "who would propose like that", then Wil states "If he was going to do it right, he would have done it like this..." he gets down on one knee and I really can't remember a word after that. I finally managed to squeak out a yes, and the rest is history!

Turns out he had Matt pick up the ring from our apartment while we were at the show, and Wil, not wanting anyone to tell me anything, didn't tell Jessi even though I know she wouldn't have said anything!
